Due to significant and rapid declines in fertility, accompanied by declines in morality and increases in life expectancy, population age structures in Asia and the Pacific have been changing, presenting opportunities and challenges for countries in the region.
About 60 per cent of all older persons (60 years or over) in the world are residing in Asia and the Pacific. The region is also the fastest ageing in the world.
